Comparison of EHC and HLP

Comparison of the Engineering Honors Concentration (EHC) and UT Honors Leadership Program (HLP)

Note: the last last cohort was admitted into this program in Fall 2023.

There is enough similarity between the requirements for these two programs, that engineering students should be able to complete both.

Course Requirements

The EHC requires 20 hours of honors course credit: 14 at 100-200 level (at least 6 hours in STEM areas) and 6 hours of upper division courses in major. Students who complete the Honors Leadership Studies Minor can use 6 hours of ELPS honors coursework to satisfy 6 hours of the non-STEM 100-200 level honors coursework for their EHC.

Breadth Requirements

Students working towards an Engineering Honors Concentration must have approved experiences in two of the following areas:

  • Research
  • Interdisciplinary Coursework
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Global Experience
  • Service Learning

One of these must be at an Intermediate level and the other at an Introductory level. More details are here »

Completion of upper-level ELPS courses required for the Honors Leadership Studies Minor and the co-curricular leadership requirements will satisfy the EHC Interdisciplinary Coursework requirement at an Intermediate Level.

Completion of an HLP International Leadership Experience may satisfy the EHC Global Experience requirement at an Introductory Level. Contact one of the Engineering Honors faculty for guidance.
